Torquay - of course!

 

A pleasant walk through Torre Abbey Gardens takes you to the palm tree lined sea front promenade with a Mediterranean style harbour.  There are many things to see & do in Torquay - the heart of the English Riviera. 

 

(5 mins drive / 20 min walk)

 

Cockington

 

Take a walk back in time through narrow streets, lined with thatched houses, a forge, water mill & cricket pitch.  Cockington Court craft centre & church lie at its centre.  If the weather is good it's a nice circular walk.  Ideal for a cream tea.

Babbacombe & St Maryschurch

 

Small villages with independent shops, side range of tea rooms, retaurants, stunning sea views and a number of interesting attractions.  Try Hanburys chips, model village, Bygones & Oddicombe beach railway whilst there.

Paignton

 

A typical seaside town with a long sandy beach, paddler friendly water & a pier.   Large multiplex cinema for rainy days.  Paignton Zoo is worth a visit, or catch the steam train here.

Newton Abbot

 

Traditional town centre with lots of shops including independent retailers.  Trago Mills is nearby if you're into bargain shopping.

Totnes

 

Has its own currency!  Exchange Sterling to spend Totnes pounds in the town.  You can't change back to Sterling but you may choose to keep as a souvenir.  A Bohemian feel to this small town full of tea shops, antiques, crafts and independent retailers.

Brixham

 

A colourful & bustling fishing port with a full size replica of Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hind.  Sample the catch of the day at the countless restaurants & seafood stalls.  Brixham Heritage Museum & Pirates Experience are here.

 

(21 mins drive / take a ferry)

Dartmouth

 

Drive, or better still take the stream train & ferry.  Ancient narrow streets house boutique shops, art galleries & delicatessens.  Try Bayards Cove for lunch.  Trips up the Dart River & Dartmouth Castle is also here.

 

 

(44 mins drive / take a steam train)

Salcombe

 

Trendy town, good for shopping, coffee shops & bistros.  Best to park outside town & walk in.  Original Jack Wills shop was opened there.  Home to Salcombe Ice Cream.
